Pirouette IV
Pirouette IV is the recipient of the President’s Choice Award for Quilt San Diego/Quilt Visions 2008.
The principle figure, a richly-textured sandhill crane is constructed from recycled clothing including tweedy wool jackets, linen, silk, rayon, and lustrous acetate. Hand-dyed and screen-printed silk organza is layered over colorful discharged and painted strips of silk organza to create an ethereal background. Tucked in behind the outer layer of organza is a second bird. Additional touches of color are introduced with luminescent oil pastels and machine quilting.
